I’m looking to incorporate some in-class feedback from students, test exam questions, etc. by allowing students to answer questions by sending text messages. I don’t intend to do it very often, and thus don’t want to pay anything–everybody wants something for free, right? But, I was interested to see if anybody has used this and prefers of the of several services that offer the service. It seems that there are several options (in the US): like smspoll.net or polleverywhere.com. Thoughts or recommendations?

I’ve used polleverywhere.com with groups of all sizes. It has worked out pretty well for me. Eveybody enjoys watching their results show up on the screen as the graphs adjust based on their feedback. It works well in the right setting. The cost is relative, but if the group is smaller you can set up multiple accounts that keeps the costs down.
Recently I introduced text message questions that can be sent into a google voice number, retrieved over my mobile app, and answered. Sometimes, depending on the group size and even topic, this facilitates better questions. It also allows people to ask questions they might not otherwise voice…and it also let’s me sort the good questions from the bad questions.
