As I come along different information, I’ll add to this list different doctoral fellowships, grants, etc. for potential PhD students in New Testament (NT), Theology, and other related areas in the UK and Europe.

  • Chichester Fellowships
From Steve Moyise via the BNTS mailing list as of 9 July 2007:
The University of Chichester is shortly to advertise in the Guardian/Times Higher five PhD bursaries worth £12,000 (+fees) for three years. One is specifically designated to work with Steve Moyise on some aspect of the use of Scripture in the New Testament. If you know of any MA students who might be interested, please ask them to email Steve Moyise for more details (s.moyise@chi.ac.uk).
  • Panacea Society
[Their theology is a bit off, but it doesn't seem that you have to hold their views to take their money.]
The Panacea Society (a UK registered charity) is once more offering a number of scholarships to doctoral students studying at British universities in the 2007/8 academic year. This year the Society intends to make its priority the encouragement of those who are about to embark on their research and who wish to consider the study of prophecy in all its manifestations. The Society especially hopes to stimulate interest in the life and history of apocalyptic and sectarian groups of all kinds. The Society has a special interest in the way in which such groups developed interest in healing, personal spiritual development, and the practices that accompanied them. In addition, it will continue to consider applications from those working more generally in the following areas: Prophecy, The Book of Revelation, The Second Coming, Jewish apocalyptic literature and Christian theology, Millennialism and Christian millenarian movements. Rev. Professor Christopher Rowland of Queens College Oxford, and Rev. Dr. Jane Shaw of New College Oxford have both kindly agreed to advise the Society with this initiative.
    Yours sincerely,
    David McLynn
    The Panacea Society.
  • Domincan Biblical Institute, associated with St. Mary’s College, University of Limerick (Ireland)
For 2007/2008 they are advertising 4 doctoral fellowships, which provides a €15,000 stipend/year and a tuition waver. The topics were virtually already set out, dealing in the areas of the development of the Synoptics in relation to the Elijah-Elisha stories. It also says that a proposal related to Corinthians might also be entertained. In addition to the normal supervisors, they’ve got internationally recognized, visiting scholars coming to spend large amounts of time to add to the projects. I believe the deadline to apply is 7 May 2007. The website seems pretty scant and a little out of date. You should email Dr. Thomas Brodie (thomasbrodie@eircom.net) for more information.
